Sambor GRUCZA: Glottodidactics for special purposes. Part I. Linguistic objectives of teaching languages for special purposes

Many linguists have dealt with different issues concerning LSP teaching and learning, both in Poland and abroad. Yet, a major drawback of these studies is a certain lack of clarity as regards what LSPs actually are. The reason for this obscurity seems to lie in the fact that little attention has been given to scientific reflection on the linguistic basis of teaching and learning LSPs. The present article consists of two parts. The first one contains a discussion of glottodidactic implications of relativistic approach to human languages, and the implications of differentiation between standard language and LSP in particular. It presents a review of studies on LSP teaching to date, as well as the division of linguistic competence into standard and specialized. Also, it characterizes the specific nature of LSP teaching.

The second part of the article includes a bibliography of scientific papers on the didactics of LSP (1), the implementations of corpus linguistics research in foreign language teaching (2), the implementations of corpus linguistics research in the didactics of translation of specialized texts (3), glottodidactio-oriented corpus linguistics (4).

Izabela BAWEJ: A lexical Mistake as a result of a different interpretation of extra-lingual reality

The aim of the article is to describe linguistic data on lexical errors which are a result of cultural differences between two languages. The contrastive hypothesis explains that the first language (mother tongue) plays an important role in the foreign language process and he is the starting point for the acquisition of the foreign language. When the foreign language learner tries to express his meaning in the foreign language he uses certain linguistic structures from his mother tongue in the performance of the foreign language and he transfers in this way the mother tongue specific features into the foreign language. The danger of using the mother tongue is connected with the lack of knowledge of the cultural background that exists in the lexical subsystem. And so the lack of knowledge about lexical structures and the lack of enough semantic experiences are the reason of the lexical errors in the learner's performance in the foreign language.

Jarosław KRAJKA: Designing the teaching process with Learning Management Systems

Together with rapid technological progress and substantial changes in the way people live, work and study, the potential of distance learning for foreign language teacher education has largely increased. With the provision of the legal regulations sanctioning the online delivery of content as an integral part of university curricula, the use of online education tools and processes has become a viable alternative to traditional modes of education, at least in certain areas. The present paper aims to analyze a sample Learning Management System (Moodle) as a framework for conducting distance or blended learning in foreign language education, as well as to present glottodidactic models resulting from various implementations of a Learning Management System in question.

Marek LASKOWSKI: Being, aims and tasks of the phraseodidactics

One area of linguistics which has developed very rapidly in the last 25 years is phraseology. Phraseological units which are not consciously created, but repeated automatically in the process of linguistic communication – are particularly likely to influence thinking and the manner of expression. We can interpret the meaning of phraseological units in terms of the relation between two different conceptual planes two phraseological pictures oft the world which those expressions present. It is generally accepted today that a language, especially its lexicon, influences its speakers' cultural patterns of thought and perception in various ways, for example through a culture-specific segmentation of the extralinguistic reality, the frequency of occurrence of particular lexical items, or the existence of keywords or key word combinations revealing core cultural values. The objective of the above article is the analysis of the intercultural and interlingual and phraseodictical aspects in the sphere of the phraseological subsystems in the mother und foreign language. This paper discusses tree aspects of the subject.  I will try to show the aims and asks of the phraseodidactics.

Joanna LEWIŃSKA: Evaluation of methodological competences of Polish and English teachers of the English language.

The primary aim of the article was to analysethe methodological skills of foreign language teachers within three areas: the process of planning foreign language lessons, the act of foreign language teaching, and the process of evaluation students' achievements. The secondary aim of the article was to present the results of the experiment whose purpose was to compare the methodological skills of Polish and English teachers teaching English in Poland. Finally, the recommendations concerning the methodological professional development of foreign language teachers are discussed.

Paweł SZERSZEŃ: Characteristics of certain classifications of programs for teaching of foreign languages

The focus of this article is an attempt to discuss a few chosen classifications of software used to teach foreign languages. The first part of this paper describes the subject in general. The second chapter introduces two selected classifications of software supporting a foreign language teaching, based on computer programs intended for learners of German and English. The classifications are accompanied by a list of criteria which help to select the particular groups of software. When discussing the typologies, an attempt is also made to assess the applicative value of the presented programs, with taking into account the possibility of using them at Polish schools.
